Fairview House – Garden Route National Park, South Africa

Fairview House – Garden Route National Park, South Africa

This exceptional country house hotel is named Fairview for good reason. The views over the forests and fynbos of the Tsitsikamma Mountains and Garden Route National Park are truly spectacular and are enjoyed from every aspect of the property. A handsome Cape Dutch property, set in sixty-eight acres of grounds, it’s a luxury stop-off for discerning guests exploring the Garden Route, and offers a secluded and luxurious home from home welcome.

Refined, contemporary interiors are juxtaposed with striking works of art on loan from the Everard Read Gallery and antique furniture – all making for sophisticated country living. It is owned and run by a family who have lived here for three generations, and who delight in sharing this stunning spot. They are truly welcoming hosts.

rooms

Simple, stylish and sophisticated, the boutique rooms and suites at Fairview House are bright, welcoming and exude understated luxury. They all have wonderfully comfortable beds and most importantly, incredible views. Some have balconies and others have private verandas onto the gardens. Families are well catered for in the Deluxe Suites.

We love the locally made bathroom products and handmade robes.  There is also a beautifully furnished three bed self-catered cottage on the site that shares a pool with the main house.

food

Delicious breakfasts are served on the verandah in the summer, and in the dining room next to the wood burning stove in the winter. Lunches and dinners are served by arrangement, and picnics can be made up to enjoy in the gardens or on your day exploring. Ingredients are grown in Fairview’s own vegetable garden and carefully sourced from local independent producers, showcasing the best of the region.

activities

This isn’t just a place to pass through. It warrants several days to explore and relax in its natural beauty. Fairview House is just ten minutes from Plettenberg Bay, with its magnificent beaches and cool seaside town vibe. Close by are the rugged Robberg Nature Reserve and the Birds of Eden bird sanctuary. The area is covered in indigenous forest with numerous hiking and biking trails.

During the migration season, Humpback and Southern Right whales and orcas come past this stretch of coastline and can be seen up close from the beaches at Keurboom, or by boat. The area is surrounded by wine estates – the sparkling white is a specialty here – and tours of one or more can easily be arranged. And golfers are spoilt for choice with several courses close by, all with glorious views. Fairview House is the ideal base from which to explore this unique part of South Africa.
