Zermatt

Head to Zermatt for a ski holiday you’ll never forget

From the first glimpse of the mighty Matterhorn as you wind your way slowly by train to Zermatt, you feel the magic of this spellbinding Swiss resort. It’s a destination for skiers who not only love the slopes, but first class food too. A winning Fish&Pips formula in fact! Snowsure slopes, with some of the highest lifts in the world, there are 200km of pistes for every ability of skier, and links to Cervinia in Italy with a further 160km.

Weather and time permitting, the 22km run from the border at Plateau Rosa, all the way down to Valtournenche is both exhilarating and easy to ski. The lift system is fast and efficient, with continual improvement and additions, but for some good old-fashioned travel, take the train up to Gornergrat. The village itself is an enchanting mix of higgledy-piggledy wooden chalets, narrow lanes, smart shops, restaurants, wine bars and best of all is car-free. Zermatt has some of the best mountain restaurants in the Alps, if not the world, so many a day may just end at lunch, sitting looking up at that amazing mountain, wondering why you never came here sooner.
