A traditional Italian mountain town, Courmayeur has retained much of its charm, and has some of the best off piste skiing in the Alps. At the foot of Mont Blanc and the head of the Aosta Valley, with north, north west facing slopes, it boasts an excellent snow record – often with a good covering when resorts elsewhere are less fortunate.
The scenery here is quite spectacular – from the SkyWay Monte Bianco cable car, you can see as far as the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa. In town, the cobbled centre is pedestrianised and the streets are full of cosy restaurants and chic shops. This is where the smart set from Turin and Milan come for the weekend, and where you’ll get the warmest of Italian welcomes.
