Majestic Hotel – Dolomites, Italy

Majestic Hotel – Dolomites, Italy

The chic mountain village of Madonna di Campiglio, right in the heart of the spectacular Brenta Dolomites, has been attracting well-heeled visitors for well over a century. And the family run Majestic, first opened its doors in the early 60s and has never looked back. Warm and welcoming, it sees guests returning year after year, greeted like members of their own family.

It sits in the centre of the village, just a stone’s throw from the ski lifts, and whether you’re here in the winter or summer, the mighty Dolomites are just moments away. And for weary limbs at the end of the day, the rooftop Spa has some of the finest views around.

rooms

Each of the rooms and suites is individually styled with a mix of contemporary and traditional Alpine design. Welcoming and comfortable, they all have fabulous mountain views, and many come with balconies. Superior Rooms are perfect for couples, but can also accommodate an extra bed for a child. With a more sombre and atmospheric tone, the Superior Design and Junior Suite Design options, come with muted colours and floor to ceiling wood panelling.

The Charme Junior Suite is cosy and romantic, whilst the Mountain and Irish Junior Suites can sleep up to three guests. The larger and sophisticated Glamour Suite comes with a double terrace and can accommodate a family of four, with a kingsize bed and sofabed. The colourful Fashion Suite features its own sauna and spacious living area, whilst the Wellness Suite has a range of Spa facilities and makes for an ideal honeymoon choice. For remote and off the beaten track, book the eight person Bait del Papi chalet up in the mountains. It’s the perfect bolthole, winter or summer.

food

In true Italian style, food is at the heart of the hotel. Ingredients are all local and seasonal, and prepared with love and flair. Traditional dishes are given a twist, and we recommend trying the tasting menu. And it’s all accompanied by a very impressive wine list, with many from slopes not too far away. Breakfasts are hearty and plentiful, and each week there is a gala dinner with a Tyrolean menu.

activities

Just steps from the hotel, the 5 Laghi ski lift whisks you to over 150km of well-groomed slopes, with a good mix for beginners, intermediates and the more advanced. The Majestic has a resident ski instructor, so booking lessons couldn’t be easier. The village is also a centre for many other alpine pursuits, with snow shoeing, ice skating, dog sledding and ice climbing amongst them. The Dolomites are just as big a summer destination as winter, and it’s easy to understand why it’s an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The mountains and outdoor sports go hand in hand. From climbing and bouldering – the vie ferrate here are famous – to mountain biking and hiking (there are hundreds of trails, both short and long), from golf to canyoning, there’s an activity for everyone. Make sure you find time to fit in a Spa treatment. Its rooftop position, with 360 degree mountain views, is enough alone to bring on a wonderful sense of wellbeing. Book a bespoke treatment, or just relax in the hydrotherapy pool, gazing out over the peaks.

family

The Majestic is ideal for families with slightly older children – there are no specific facilities for younger ones. The slopes are just a short walk away – making carrying skis very easy, and the staff go out of their way to make you welcome. Here, with the backdrop of the majestic and legendary Brenta Dolomites, you can enjoy a holiday dedicated to fun, relaxation, discovery and sports.
