Ciasa Salares – Dolomites, Italy

Ciasa Salares – Dolomites, Italy

Ciasa means home in the local Ladin language. And what a home it is, thanks to the Wieser family, now in its third generation, and their warmth, vision and love of the region’s traditions, food and culture. Tucked at the foot of the mighty Conturines and Lavarela peaks, in the typicial Dolomite style, it has sweeping views of mountains and meadows from its terraces and rooms. Guests come back year after year for its incredible food, the personal touches and the instant access to the Dolomiti Superski area. You can even ski right back to the front door.

rooms

With stripped pine walls, local artisanal detail and supremely comfortable beds, the rooms and suites are mountain havens. Standard rooms and the larger Superior Rooms are intimate and cosy, with a kingsize bed or twins – perfect for a couple or children. They both come with or without a balcony. The Junior Suites and the Lavarella Suites come with plenty of living space, making them romantic boltholes. The Suites Conturines are vast and luxurious, making them ideal for families.

And we love the Suites Salares for their Alpine apartment style living and panoramic views of the Dolomites. Right at the top, mixing contemporary and traditional design, is the Penthouse Rü Blanch, with two bathrooms, a hot tub on the balcony and every comfort you could want. It has honeymoon written all over it, and works equally well for a family. Many of the rooms and suites interconnect, giving guests lots of options.

food

Ladin cuisine is rich in mountain tradition with recipes handed down over generations. The food at Ciasa Salares is a true gastronomic journey through the terrain – with ingredients from local artisanal producers and the hotel’s own kitchen garden. Let’s start with breakfast. Each day begins with an incredible variety of yoghurts, pastries, cheeses, cold meats and cooked options – you’ll be ready for the day ahead. For a small hotel there’s an impressive choice of restaurants.

Enjoy lunch on the terrace at Infini and delicious dinners at Sorí. Dine in the atmospheric Cocun (cellar in Ladin) surrounded by 24,000 of excellent wine, and have pudding in Nodla – the chocolate room. The hotel boasts a cheese room too – Nida – which is an homage to tiny producers and rare, raw milk cheeses.

activities

In the heart of the Alta Badia, Ciasa Salares is perfectly postioned in the Dolomiti Superski area – over 1,250km of fabulously groomed slopes. Skiers and enjoy the famous Sellaronda, immersing themselves in some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere. Non-skiers can snowshoe along countless trails, or the fit can try Nordic skiing or ice climbing. Summer brings mountain picnics, hiking, mountain biking and exploring the region’s vie ferrate.

The hotel has an extensive list of things to do – the wine and grappa tasting is particularly fun. There’s a huge choice of treatments and therapies in the Spa, with its sauna, pool and Turkish bath – the perfect end to a day in the mountains.

family

Families are welcomed with open arms, in true Tyrolean style, and there’s plenty of gentle skiing for beginners on the slopes nearby.
