Col Alto – Dolomites, Italy

Col Alto – Dolomites, Italy

Right on the Sellaronda route, nestled under the mighty Sassongher, the mountain that dominates Corvara, Col Alto is one of the most established hotels in this little town. A sophisticated mix of modern Alpine hospitality and traditional Ladin values, it is famous for its warm welcomes, where faultless and efficient staff look after your every need, and its excellent food. In the winter, after a day on the slopes, you’re greeted by roaring fires and deep sofas, and in summer, the sunny terrace beckons. It’s intimate for couples and embraces families, with the Dolomites there on the doorstep.

For even more space, the Sassongher Suite and Marmolada Suite are two roomed apartments with views over peaks, sleeping up to four. The Sella Ronda Suite also sleeps four, with two bathrooms, and is modern and sophisticated. The Deluxe Wellness Suite and Panorama Suite sleep five and six respectively, with the former featuring a private sauna and the latter with a Jacuzzi on its private terrace.

food

Celebrating South Tyrolean and Ladin culinary tradition, using local and seasonal ingredients, the food at Col Alto is lovingly prepared and delicious. Traditional recipes are given a modern twist, and once a week there’s a Ladin evening. And it’s all accompanied by an impressive list of Italian and international wines.

activities

It’s easy to see why Corvara is one of the most popular places in the Dolomites. The scenery is stunning, and you have instant access to the Dolomiti Superski area – over 1200km of well-groomed pistes, and the famous Sellaronda route. There are slopes for all abilities, particularly beginners and intermediates, and a hugely indulgent choice of excellent mountain restaurants. The numerous trails through the woods are ideal for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, and there’s plenty for non-skiers too.

The Dolomites are a haven during the summer, with a number of vie ferrate in the mountains for those brave enough to scale them, countless hiking and mountain biking paths, as well as high altitude golf courses and a tree top adventure park. Col Alto also has a very well-equipped Spa, with the hydromassage pool or salt steam grotto being an ideal place to relax at the end of the day.

family

Col Alto welcomes families with children of all ages. There’s a mini club for children aged four and over, and two games rooms, with a climbing wall, table tennis, billiards and a lot of Lego. Alta Badia is also a fabulous place for children to experience their first time on skis. In summer too, the Dolomites are the perfect destination for active families.

sustainability

The hotel is justifiably proud of its zero food miles, recognising local culture and the importance of the environment.
