Petunia – Ibiza
Balearic folklore has it that Es Vedrà has mystical powers. Whether that’s true or not, we can definitely agree that a stay at Petunia, overlooking the towering rock, is nothing short of enchanting. The hotel’s effortlessly eclectic style and bohemian vibe, where not a single comfort is compromised, make this one of our favourite places to enjoy a different side of Ibiza.
Sprawled on a hillside amongst colourful gardens, full of winding paths and quiet places to hide, it blends into the landscape, with the gorgeous Cala Carbó just a ten minute walk away. Friendly and very professional staff are on hand at all times, who not only make sure you have everything you need, but can tell you all about the island too. The food is delicious and the atmosphere seductive, all adding up to an utterly blissful escape.

With their whitewashed interiors with splashes of vibrant colour, and filled with Ibizan detail, the rooms and suites are airy and elegant. And they all come with a large balcony or terrace for soaking up the sun, with many looking out over Es Vedrà. Some of the suites can sleep up to three, with the family suites accommodating four. The Bougainvillea Suites with their private rooftop terraces are quite possibly our absolute favourite.
food
The three restaurants at Petunia all serve traditional Ibizan dishes with an innovative take, celebrating fresh ingredients from the Balearics. Start the day at La Mesa d’Es Vedrà, the heart of the hotel, with its mesmerizing views and delicious gazpacho. Los Olivos, by the pool, is a relaxed affair, whilst an evening at the rooftop La Mirada is the perfect Mediterranean experience.
activities
This hotel is the ideal spot for exploring the more hidden sides of Ibiza. Enjoy the west coast beaches, hiking or cycling (there are bikes you can borrow), with dramatic views at every turn, and take a refreshing dip in the sea to keep you cool. For total peace and quiet, spend the day on the water with a private boat charter, finding empty coves, and perhaps some snorkelling. Or head for La Formentera for the day. It’s also just very tempting to not move from the pool, having possibly begun your day with a yoga or pilates session.
Then maybe choose from the very lengthy massage menu before a rooftop sundowner and settling back to watch a film at the outdoor cinema, with Es Vedrà as a backdrop.
family
Whilst there’s no kids club, or organised activities for children, Petunia offers a relaxed setting for families looking for a peaceful time away. The family suites are perfect spaces, and there are gentle beaches just a short distance away.
sustainability
Petunia has implemented a number of practices to ensure responsible tourism and its commitment to the environment. Much of the power comes from solar energy and you’ll find no single use plastics. The hotel partners with the Ibiza Preservation Foundation, supporting local marine and land projects to safeguard its natural surroundings, and vegetables and herbs are grown in its organic kitchen gardens for use in the restaurant.
