Our Holidays to Oman

Our Holidays to Oman

“Oman is for those wanting to see the Middle East in a gentle fashion. The people are wonderful, the culture fascinating and the diversity of scenery allows for such a great trip.” – Philippa, the Pips

Oman is the perfect destination for adventure with its rugged landscape ready to be explored, pristine beaches, vast desert dunes, and rich heritage.

Philippa and Jo fell in love with it after their trip last year – they loved swimming in the Wadi River, visiting the souks in Niswa and immersing themselves in Omani culture.

So much of it is family-friendly and with September to April being the best time to go due to its beautiful warm weather (but not being too hot), it’s an excellent contender for October half-term. With only a 7 hour flight time and small time difference, it is the perfect place to visit for a family adventure. Alternatively, it’s excellent for couples looking for getaway that has the perfect blend of culture, winter sunshine and luxurious hotels.

Here are a few of our favourite places that you can book with us in Oman…

Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar

Best for: mountain exploration

As one of the highest resorts in the world, Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar perches high up on Oman’s Green Mountain with striking views over the canyon and Al Hajar Mountains. This is the place for wilderness and relaxation, all within a luxury setting. Thrill seekers will relish the challenge of the Jabal Activity Wall; a mix of via ferrata, abseiling and zip lines for that adrenaline rush.

For things a little more leisurely, there are guided walks, sunrise yoga and cookery lessons. The spa is otherworldly in its mountain surroundings with Hammam, salt-infused steam room and sauna, and some of the most delicious-smelling local spa ingredients you will ever find. And enjoy some quality time à deux with a mountain picnic for two or cosying up for stargazing at night.

Hud Hud

Best for: Off-the-beaten-track adventure

Get a taste of authentic Oman discovering its ever-changing landscapes, rich culture, and history. Hud Hud is a luxury tented camp experience that will take you anywhere – the Al Hajar or Qara Mountains, vast desert dunes, eastern salt flats and so much more.

Their bespoke itineraries are tailored to their guests and offer so much in the way of adventure and sights. Ride a camel across the dunes, go snorkelling in the Indian Ocean, visit the souks of Niswa or immerse yourself in local culture. And at the end of the day, enjoy a three-course dinner under the stars. It’s a completely unique and unforgettable experience for the whole family.

Six Senses Zighy Bay

Best for: Activities

If you’re on the hunt for an action-packed holiday, then Six Senses Zighy Bay fits the bill, and it begins from the moment you arrive with the option to paraglide into the resort. On a mile-long crescent beach looking out over the Gulf of Oman, there are activities on tap to suit different tastes – snorkelling, cooking classes, paragliding, village treks and mountain biking to name a few. We recommend unwinding after an active day at Sense on the Edge, the restaurant perched on the hilltop with incredible views.

No trip to a Six Senses is complete without a visit to the spa, and Six Senses Zighy Bay is no exception. And catch the sunrise during a morning yoga session on the outdoor pavilion.

Alila Jabal Akhdar

Best for: star gazing

High in the Al Hajar mountains and with far-reaching views, adventurous families will love it at Alila Jabal Akhdar. There’s so much to see and do in the Al Hajar mountains; countless walks and treks with extraordinary scenery, or an exhilarating via ferrata cave adventure taking you down the mountain face to the bottom of the Wadi. There are lots of activities geared up specifically for children too, from adventure walks and scavengers hunts to archery and arts and crafts. By night, you’ll find some of the starriest skies, perfect for stargazing with their resident astronomer.

Leisurely days can be spent by the large infinity pool, in the spa with beauty treatments made from natural ingredients, hammam and plunge pool. Local and seasonal produce is celebrated here, to create delicious Arabic dishes that can be enjoyed while overlooking the mountains.

The Chedi Muscat

 Best for: luxury and indulgence

At the foot of the Al Hajar mountains, on its on private beach and surrounded by 21 acres of pristine gardens, The Chedi offers a real indulgent break for families. It’s superbly located for discovering everything Muscat has to offer from the souks, the Grand Mosque (home to the world’s second largest single carpet), and a visit to the historic market town of Niswa. If you happen to be there on Friday, witnessing market day is quite the spectacle.

Retreat back to The Chedi for its sense of calm; an Arabian spa with such a vast range of Eastern influenced treatments and your pick of the three pools. You can enjoy your fill of Middle Eastern and international cuisine too, with freshly caught seafood featuring heavily on the menu.
