For culture, art, cuisine, history and spectacular scenery, Tuscany and Umbria are remarkably blessed. Hilltop towns, fortressed villages, medieval cathedrals and fresco-lined gothic basilicas vie for your attention amongst unparalleled art galleries and notable museums. Evocative views are all around. From rolling hills of sunflowers and cypress trees to glimmering lakes and the unspoilt beaches of the Tyrrhennian coast.
And then there’s the culinary scene.
Tuscany is famous for its pasta and olive oil, whist Umbria is home to the highly prized tartufo nero and delicious affettati (salami). The former has some of the world’s most famous wine regions (think Montalcino and Montepulciano), whilst the hillsides of the latter are full of small, artisan producers.
