Explora Torres del Paine – Chile

Explora Torres del Paine – Chile

Explora Torres del Paine was the first hotel to be built in the national park – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve famous for its dramatic granite spires, horn-shaped peaks, vast glaciers and bright turquoise lakes. And not only does it boast one of the best locations within the park, it also offers the most outstanding guiding, along with a large dose of luxury. The brand has pioneered high end, all-inclusive, exploration throughout South America, allowing guests to experience the majestic beauty of the continent. Here you can hike or ride across the pampas and up to the peaks, witnessing panoramas and wildlife found nowhere else.

rooms

There aren’t that many views from your bed that are this spectacular. The spectacular Cordillera Paine is definitely the main event here, through picture windows that span the length of the rooms and suites. The cosy Salto Chico Rooms look out over the azure waterfall entering the lake. Panelled in native lenga wood, they feature large and very comfortable beds, and slate bathrooms with hydromassage tubs for a good soak at the end of a long hike.

food

It has to be said that the restaurant also boasts some of the finest views from your table, with a menu full of local and seasonal Chilean cuisine, with its unique flavours and ingredients. Don’t miss the lamb spit roasted on the outside “asado” – naturally accompanied by some of the country’s most acclaimed wines. And you’ll definitely be very glad of the plentiful breakfasts before you set off for the day’s adventure.

activities

One of South America’s most untamed wildernesses, the Torres del Paine national park is famous for its diverse ecosystems and incredible landscapes, with excellent trekking and wildlife spotting. The lodge offers over 40 guided tours and explorations, all of which are included in your stay. There are a number of half and full day treks of differing intensity, across the steppes, to the Grey Glacier, through sub polar forests and up into the peaks – some starting with a catamaran trip over Lake Pehoé.

The lodge has its own stables, with a thrilling choice of rides through the pampas and fording rivers to difficult to reach view points, for a true gaucho experience. Nature lovers are spellbound by the flora and fauna they see along the way – from possible puma sightings, to condors soaring overhead, and guanacos wandering freely across the landscape.

family

The rugged, outdoor nature of a holiday here means that the lodge is much better suited to older children. There are no specific facilities for younger guests, but an extra bed can be put into the rooms and suites.

sustainability

Through the lodge’s low impact build, and energy and waste management, its focus is fully on the environment in which it sits. It is involved in reforestation projects and partners with Patagonia Circular to transform recovered plastic waste into trail infrastructure. Explora also works closely with the local community and is involved in puma monitoring.
