Awasi Patagonia – Chile
In one of the most remote spots on the continent, is one of the most luxurious lodges in the world. Set in a private reserve, there are few locations more spectacular, looking out over the craggy peaks of the Torres del Paine National Park and Lake Sarmiento. And if you’re lucky, where you’ll spot guanacos, foxes and condors. It may be remote, but the level of detail, the attention of the team and the quality of the personalised experiences make this absolutely worth the journey.
The cabins are sanctuaries from which to soak up your surroundings, the dining is first class and the guides are some of the most professional we’ve met. This is the place to experience wilderness and comfort at its best.

Discretely set far apart from each other, and blending in with the surrounding lenga forest, the very spacious and luxurious wood and glass cabins have some of the best views we’ve ever seen. Wooden panelled and floored, with sheepskin rugs, shearling throws and woodburning stoves, they’re all orientated so that the views through the large windows are the main event – views that are also enjoyed from the hot tubs that they feature on their decks. The all-glass Cenit Villa comes with a private chef and two master suites.
food
Awasi Patagonia showcases the cuisine of Chile, with seasonal produce fresh from the lodge’s garden, local farms or foraged. Fish comes straight from the South Pacific fjords, and lamb and guanaco (a relative of the llama and alpaca) from the surrounding mountains. Delicious and beautifully presented, it’s paired with an extensive selection of wines suggested by the very knowledgeable sommelier.
activities
This is the place for guests who seek out remote wildernesses and solitude. Every cabin comes with a private guide with a 4×4, dedicated to creating an individual itinerary for you. Go deep into the Torres del Paine National Park and hike the Base Torres trail along the Ascencio Valley to the ethereally turquoise lagoon at the foot of the three mighty granite towers. There are boat trips across Lake Pehoe followed by a hike to the Southern Patagonian Icefield – one of the largest non-polar glaciers on earth.
Wildlife lovers will want to rise before dawn for a morning of puma spotting, or hike the Kotula trail for birdwatching. And for a true gaucho experience, there’s a chance to horse ride from a local estancia.
family
Older children with a sense of adventure will love this location, but they’ll need to be over the age of ten to stay here.
sustainability
Awasi Patagonia is built from local wood, and the surrounding woodland is protected and maintained by the lodge, offsetting all of its carbon emissions. Produce is grown in the kitchen garden or sourced locally, and there are robust composting and recycling practices in place. The lodge works closely with local conservation groups and scientists, monitoring and protecting the puma population and other native species.
