D Maris Bay – Turkey

D Maris Bay – Turkey

When it comes to location, D Maris Bay can’t be faulted. On a remote, mountainous peninsula, in a pristine and protected nature reserve, it’s surrounded by almond trees and pines, five perfect beaches and water the colour of emerald. It’s a place for exploring the verdant hills, the many islands, hidden coves and the sea. Needless to say, the views are incredible, and the peace and tranquility are very seductive. This is a slick and sophisticated resort, with first class service and exclusive facilities.

The beach cabanas have bells for when you’d like a drink; there are yachts to take you out into the Med and the restaurants are some of the best around.

With either a sea or mountain view, each of the rooms and suites is wonderfully light, spacious, modern and stylish, and all come with a balcony. Classic and Superior Rooms have a king or twin beds, whilst the Deluxe Rooms can sleep up to three. The even larger suites can also sleep up to two adults and a child. For more space, the Splendid Suite has two bedrooms, and the rather fabulous penthouse Duplex Presidential Suite is spread over two floors with commanding views and jacuzzi on its roof terrace. The villa has a private garden a pool, and sleeps four.

food

We love the exceptional choice of restaurants and bars at D Maris Bay – each with its own distinctive character. The food is excellent, and guests can choose from typical Turkish to international cuisine. The D Maris Kitchen serves delicious local dishes, brasserie style, while Manos is a buzzing Greek taverna, and La Guérite is the place to go for seafood given the Aegean treatment. You’ll find high end Japanese at Zuma and tender steaks at Nusr-et. For Italian, head for La Notte.

activities

Lie by the pool, or on one of the five beaches? It’s a tough decision to take every morning. But then, you’re also spoilt for choice with the range of activities on offer. Water sports are very well catered for, with a sailing school, wake boarding, surfing and  kayaking, all with a host of instructors to show you the ropes. Guests can also charter a yacht or motorboat and explore the simply stunning coastline. Keep an eye out for turtles as you go.

Whilst not physically present, Goran Ivanisevic heads up the tennis school, where the team of coaches give excellent tuition. You’ll need to book up in advance, as the slots are very popular. The health and wellbeing facilities are no less impressive. The Spa has ten treatment rooms, with a traditional Turkish hammam being way up on our list of sessions to book. The gym is very well-equipped, there’s an open air yoga deck, fitness classes and running and cycling trails. For a bird’s eye view of the Datça Peninsula, you can even take a helicopter tour. And then, maybe head back to the pool!

family

The shallow bays and sandy beaches are kid heaven – although none under 12 can visit Silence Beach – and there are activities galore for families. For the younger ones (four to 12) the D Kiddie Club is run by a professionally trained team, that organises daily activities from golf to painting and baking. There’s a huge amount of fun to be had out on the water – children over 12 can learn to sail with anything from a one to five day course, and there’s a great choice of inflatables. Babysitting is available and the restaurants have children’s menus.

sustainability

The team at D Maris Bay are actively involved in environmental projects, from tree planting to beach cleans, which benefits marine conservation and the surrounding area.
