Bequia Beach Hotel – The Grenadines

Bequia Beach Hotel – The Grenadines

Sitting in amongst palms and almond groves on a crescent of golden sand, Bequia Beach Hotel looks out over the bay towards Mustique. What started as a few rooms and a rum shack, is now the most stylish hotel on the island, which oozes all the charm of the Caribbean of yesteryear. Pastel coloured cottages are dotted throughout the gardens and along the beach, luxuriating in their tropical surroundings.

Guests are whisked here on the hotel’s very own private plane and received with the warmest of welcomes by a team of friendly and attentive staff and the ever-present owner. The laid back vibe is infectious, and there’s no surprise that guests return time and again.

rooms

From suites right on the beach to airy rooms around the pool, and from colonial style cottages in the gardens to spacious villas on the hill, they are all individually styled whilst sharing a traditional Caribbean vibe. The Classic Family Suites and Two Bedroom Pool Villas are ideal for families, sleeping up to four. Some are secluded, others feature private pools and many have views out over the bay towards Mustique.

food

Locals and guests alike dine at Bagatelle, the hotel’s relaxed restaurant right by the beach. With a team of local and international chefs, the cuisine here is innovative with distinct Caribbean flavours, with most of the ingredients locally sourced and fresh from the ocean. In high season, there’s live music and the evenings often become a party. Further up the hill is Blue Tropic (open seasonly), with a delicious Italian influenced menu.

And five minutes away, on Princess Margaret Beach (one of the best in the island), is Jack’s Bar, which serves a great cocktail and excellent snacks. One visit won’t be enough.

activities

Ruggedly beautiful, and surrounded by miles of deserted beaches, Bequia is the second largest island in the Grenadines, with a culture you can’t help immersing yourself in. It is also perfect for those who like remote destinations. The lush and unspoilt interior will make you feel like an explorer – hike to the highest point for some spectacular views of the island and its neighbours. And the waters surrounding it are a haven for diving and snorkeling. At Lower Bay, the reef runs parallel to the beach and is easily accessed.

Enjoy a cruise on the hotel’s luxury yacht “Star of the Sea” to Mustique or the stunning Tobago Cays, or relax on deck watching the sun go down and sipping something chilled. The hotel has paddleboards and kayaks for guests to use, along with bikes for exploring. And if you’re just not relaxed enough, the little Spa has a tempting range of treatments – we recommend a beachside massage.

family

Many of the suites and villas are ideal for families and the gently sloping beach is perfect for younger children. The hotel has a small kid’s club that runs from Mondays to Saturdays for children aged four to twelve, with a range of supervised activities and children have the opportunity to visit the Bequia turtle sanctuary. Babysitting is also available.
