One of the resort’s landmarks, the art nouveau La Margna welcomed its first guests in 1906. Relaunching in 2023, it mixed those visually stunning design elements with contemporary flair, opening a modern wing alongside its traditional Engadin façade. Inside, the interiors are all modern alpine chic – parquet flooring, rich velvet fabric, peppered with modern art, and with achingly beautiful views out over Lake St. Moritz. Sleek and minimalist, yet cosy, the rooms and suites are a haven after a day in the mountains. With exceptionally comfortable beds and bathrooms designed for luxuriating in (all with showers and the Deluxe rooms and above with a bathtub), they all enjoy views out over the town, surrounding mountains or the lake. They range from Superior Rooms to the larger Junior and Panoramic Suites, some of which can sleep up to four. The Terrace Suites and Penthouse are positively breathtaking.

Dine on a Mediterranean inspired menu at The View – whilst most likely not being able to take your eyes away from the panorama through the windows. Enjoy creatively prepared prime cuts of Black Angus and Wagyu at Beefbar, or settle in stube style at Stüvetta Moritz for classic Engadin dishes. Or for light snacks, head for N/5, the gloriously decorated bar and heart of the hotel.

Beginners through to expert skiers come for the three distinct ski areas in St. Moritz and the perfectly groomed slopes – ski school can be booked direct from the hotel. The mountains and lake are also home to numerous other winter sports, from cross country skiing to snow kiting, curling to the famous Cresta Run. Non skiers (or those having a day off the slopes) also love this resort, for its high end retail therapy opportunities; horse drawn sleigh rides, and if you’re brave enough, a plunge into the lake’s icy water.
Each winter, the lake hosts a number of thrilling events – you’re sure to see horses or classic cars taking a spin. In the summer, the mountains become a hiking or cycling paradise, and the lake comes alive with sails. And after all this activity, make sure you book at least one treatment in the very gorgeous Spa.

From being right next to the station, making travel here incredibly easy, to having a kids’ club for children from the age of three, the hotel is very family friendly. Spacious and well designed, the club is supervised during the day, with hours depending on the season. Parents can use the playroom with their children out of hours, and it’s all included in your room rate. Cots and extra beds can be put into the rooms and suites. And there’s plenty to keep families of all ages occupied in the mountains, whatever the season.

The recent renovation of the hotel ensured the historic integrity of the building and used an eco conscious design as well as traditional craft techniques. It partners with alpine climate organisations and sources local produce.
