Fairmont Taghazout Bay

Fairmont Taghazout Bay

Stretched along the beach in forty five acres of gardens and grounds, the Fairmont Taghazout Bay is the first luxury resort on this part of the coastline. Low slung and blending into its surroundings – the ocean and endless sand on one side, and the southern Atlas mountains on the other, it’s a chic and luxurious enclave of stone, wood and glass. The rambling gardens are full of secret terraces and quiet places to relax, scented by plants and herbs, with paths leading down to the beach.

Surf some of the coast’s most magnificent waves; explore nearby villages; trek the mountains, or just put your feet up and be looked after by an exceptionally efficient and hospitable team.

rooms

Most of the rooms and suites face the ocean, with the light reflecting off the water filling the space. Others look out over tranquil gardens. Décor is modern Moroccan minimalism – relaxed sandy tones with hints of Berber blue. The bathrooms are marbled and slick, whilst the generous balconies are the place to sit to watch the sunset. Rooms range from One Deluxe King Bed to Two Deluxe Queen Beds – ideal for families with younger children – and all of them exceptionally spacious.

The even larger Suites feature separate living areas, and come with daybeds on their terraces and balconies. The larger Two Bedroom Suites can sleep a family of up to six. For extra privacy and luxury, the resort’s four villas are sophisticatedly designed and laid out, with their own pool and large terraces – sleeping from six to nine guests.

food

In true Fairmont style, the gastro scene here will not disappoint. From wholesome Moroccan breakfasts with local honey to start the day, to tapas platters with flavours from Spain, the Middle East and Turkey, poolside for lunch. Sip cocktails in one of the bars before dinner, then head to Morimoto (Masaharu Morimoto’s first restaurant in Africa) for delicious plates of lobster sushi and tataki. For something more substantial, Beef and Reef with its infinity poolside setting has an exceptionally tempting menu. Or tuck into one of the many Italian dishes at Paper Moon.

activities

Whether you’re here to sit back and do very little, or are up for adventure, this resort can cater for it all and everything in between. And the concierge team will both make suggestions and organise it all for you. The beach is renowned for its surfing – surfers have been coming here for decades. If you’re a beginner the resort offers lessons. The Atlas Mountains and surrounding desert offer a plethora of opportunities – trekking, horse riding (you can do this along the beach too), quad biking, sandboarding and cultural excursions.

The resort also has bikes for guests to explore along the coast and inland. Head to Agadir to browse the souks, or just wander into Taghazout, just a short walk away. Golfers should book a tee off at Taghazout Golf – an 18 hole, par 72 course amongst argan trees, and with fabulous ocean views. For Spa aficionados, we recommend the Berber Hammam – a very relaxing bathing ceremony, with a scrub and massage or one of their signature facials.

family

The resort has something for all ages, with the beach being the major draw. Teens can learn to surf, whilst younger children can have hours of fun in the sand, or in the resort’s well-equipped playground. The kid’s club is staffed by professionals, who organise a wealth of activities, and babysitting can also be arranged. The games room and mini-cinema are both very popular too.

sustainability

Built with sustainability in mind, there are a number of initiatives at Taghazout Bay to reduce water and energy consumption. Rooms are fitted with software that turn lights off when you leave; solar power is used to heat the pools and grey water is recycled for irrigating the gardens. The resort also organizes beach clean-ups, promoting environmental awareness within the local community.
