Once a grain warehouse, FAENA Buenos Aires takes centre stage in the chic district of Puerto Madero. Imposing from the outside, the inside is a whimsical and opulent affair. Designed by Philippe Starck, with deep red velvet drapes, pillar box coloured sofas, black marbled walls, and a contrasting mix of vintage furniture, it’s decadent and playful. There’s dancing here every night at El Cabaret, the 1920s style tango club. and music performances in the Library Lounge evoke the sultry atmosphere of this passionate city. The hotel even has its own art gallery. FAENA really does conjure up the true spirit of Buenos Aires.

The rooms and suites certainly have character. Looking out over either the lush gardens of Puerto Madero, the Rio de la Plata, or the city skyline, they’re a bold mix of gilded furniture, crisp white linen covered in delicate handwoven artisanal throws, carved mirrors, and the beds quite literally in the centre. Some rooms come with roll top baths and glass walled bathrooms, and many interconnect.

Fine dine on innovative Italian-Sardinian cuisine amongst the dramatic setting of grandiose crystal chandeliers and unicorn heads at Bistró Sur, or sit back in the more casual El Mercado, with its traditional cantina style setting, that spills out onto the terrace. Drink in the element of theatre here as the aroma of sizzling meats drift from the clay oven and open-pit barbecue. You don’t need to travel far for entertainment or for some true Latin American experiences. The hotel has its own school of dance, wine and cooking, so you can become proficient in the tango without having to step outside. You’ll also find a very well-equipped gym and a Spa, with personal trainers and an extensive list of treatments from around the world. Whilst there are no particular facilities for children, families are welcomed here in true Argentinian style. Cots are provided in rooms, and babysitting can be arranged.
