Belmond Copacabana Palace Hotel – Brazil
Before the Copacabana Palace was built, it was really just the beach here. Then once a string of stars, from Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire to Ella Fitzgerald, began to grace its suites and terraces, it became the hottest spot in Rio. And over a century later, its French Riviera style façade, elegant retro décor and world class service, have kept it as the city’s grand dame, and one of its most elegant addresses.
Opulently decorated, with swathes of marble, grand chandeliers and art deco lines, it’s the perfect luxurious base from which to explore this vibrant city and its beaches, as well as enjoy seamless hospitality.

food
Food is most definitely a celebration here, making it one of the best places to dine in the city. The poolside Pérgula serves exceptional breakfasts and Brazilian classics fresh from the grill at lunch and dinner. The pan-Asian Mee has a Michelin star, with a dizzying array of sakes from which to choose. Or for some of the finest Italian food on the continent, Cipriani never fails to impress. And the Pool Bar, with its light snacks is for those who just can’t move from their lounger.
activities
You can’t come here and not spend a day (or several) by the pool, or on the famous Copacabana beach (the hotel has a private section) – where attendants are on hand with anything you need. If, or when, you decide to explore, watch the sun rise from the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, then take a boat tour around Guanabara Bay. The hotel will organise private tours of the city and its beaches, giving you a real flavour of Rio life.
You can still get some exercise in – there’s a rooftop tennis court, and you’ll find the Spa to be one of the best you’ve experienced.
