A 10 DAY  ITINERARY FROM PORTOFINO DOWN TO THE AMALFI COAST

Explore the romantic west coast of Italy from the idyllic fishing village of Portofino in northern Italy all the way to the rugged shoreline and warm waters of the Amalfi Coast. The below is just a taster, let us tailor make the perfect Italian itinerary for you. Read on to find out more.

Days 1 and 2 - Portofino

You’ll fly into Milan airport and be driven by private transport to Portofino, where the rest of the day is yours to settle in and unwind at your leisure at the 5 star Belmond Splendido. The next day you’ll travel to a family-run renewable and self-sustainable eco-farm in the heart of the Park of Portofino. You will learn all the about the project of the farm to recover abandoned lands, resume traditional cultivation techniques and promote a return to agriculture and animal husbandry.


It’s then time to learn about traditional Ligurian dishes and how to cook them during the hands-on cooking class in the eco-farm laboratory, before enjoying your creations for a well earned lunch. 

 

Day 3 - Cinque Terre

For your final day in Portofino you will travel to Cinque Terre. These five ancient fishing villages are strung along the coast overlooking the harbours in a burst of colour. You’ll journey through each sampling a speciality in each place. Start in Monterosso, and delight in the best lemon granita. Board a private traditional gozzo boat and sail along the coast. In Vernazza take a nibble at farinata – an amazing local chickpea pie – and savour pesto trofie pasta in Manarola. Cap off the day exploring Corniglia, making sure to take the time to have a refreshing gelato tasting.

 

 

Day 4 - Portofino to Tuscany

You’ll travel by private car to Tuscany and stop in Pisa, home to the famous Piazza del Duomo. The white structures of the Duomo and the Baptistry, both in Pisan Romanesque, the Camposanto Monumentale and the Bell Tower, known as Leaning Tower all form part of this renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there you’ll travel to the Borgo Pignano country estate, to relax and enjoy Michelin star dining and organic Tuscan wine, surrounded by rolling hills and luxurious accommodation. 

 

Days 5 and 6 - Tuscany and San Gimignano

Enjoying a relaxing morning before heading to the hilltop town of San Gimignano, a World Heritage Site with 14 picturesque medieval towers. You’ll be met by a local guide who will take you on a leisurely bike ride through the vineyards blanketing the surrounding landscape.

The following day you will venture on a truffle hunting experience in the company of a local expert and his fellow dog. Wander through local woods, in search of the precious tuber.


Then, enjoy a private cooking class and learn how to add fresh black truffles to Tuscan food specialties. Feast on your creations at lunch. You’ll then return to Borgo Pignano for your final evening in Tuscany.

Days 7 and 8 - Naples, Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii

A Private transfer to Florence train station and and you’ll board the Frecciarossa high-speed train to Naples before heading to the 5-star Grand Hotel Vesuvio on the sea front of Naples. Familiarise yourself with the city on a walking tour and discover its glorious past, its medieval castles and monumental squares.

For the penultimate full day, you’ll head to the Vesuvius National Park.


With your hiking guide you’ll set out on a trip along the trails, reaching the crater to enjoy the majesty of the volcano as well as the amazing view over the whole Gulf of Naples. In the afternoon, head to the UNESCO World Heritage designated Archaeological Area of Pompeii and meet your guide, an expert in archaeology. The terrible eruption of Vesuvius that buried Pompeii on August 24, 79 A.D. has left to posterity the opportunity to visit the town as it appeared to the ancient inhabitants just before the catastrophe.

Days 9 and 10 - Naples

On your final day you’ll learn how to make real and authentic pizza in the city where it was born, Naples. With your own private cooking classes you’ll be preparing everything from the dough, down to the sauce and the cooking at the right temperature, as well as top secrets from the professionals. Feast on your creations for lunch, before spending one final afternoon in town at your leisure.

On the final morning, you’ll be driven by private transfer to Naples Airport for your return flight.
