Costa Rica Family Holiday Itinerary

AN EXAMPLE 10 DAY FAMILY HOLIDAY TO COSTA RICA

Costa Rica is an excellent place to start if you’re thinking of taking your family on their very first adventure holiday. It’s an incredibly safe country and Costa Ricans are exceptionally welcoming. Then of course, there’s the extraordinary wildlife you meet along the way, and the vast choice of national parks, beaches, ziplining and tree top fun. If you have ten days to two weeks, there is lots to discover. Read on to find out more.

Arrive: San José - Day 1

A day and a night in the Costa Rica capital, San José, with excursions to the Central Market, the Gold Museum and the city’s gardens and park. Not forgetting the Museo de los Niños (the children’s museum), fun for all the family, with over 40 interactive and unique rooms. Not too far the airport, you might stay somewhere like the Xandari Resort on the northern outskirts of San José.

Explore: Arena - Days 2 to 3

You’ll journey to the Arenal region and visit one of seven historically active Costa Rican volcanoes in the north, and the youngest and only conical volcano in the country. Explore the area, kayak on Arenal lake, zipline, enjoy the hot springs and swim under waterfalls – there something for everyone young and old, and you may even see a sloth or two on your travels.

An exampl of where you might stay would be the luxurious Tabacón Thermal Resort and Spa located at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano.

Discover: Monteverde - Days 4 to 5

Head to Monteverde on a private transfer, stopping for a Lagoon picnic on route, and experience rare cloud forest and encounter some of the country’s most incredible wildlife – from enormous butterflies to tiny humming birds and monkeys. Explore the canopy on hanging bridges, or go horseback riding through the forests.

The Monteverde Lodge and Gardens could be your home for this part of your journey, with breath taking views the hotel is tranquil and relaxing, a natural oasis where you feel worlds apart from civilisation.

Visit: Palo Verde - Days 6 to 7

The penultimate part of this journey will see you travel to the wetlands of Palo Verde National Park in the North West of the country. This is one of the best examples of tropical dry forests remaining. There you’ll find hundreds of bird species and over 55 species of amphibians and reptiles, the best way to explore the waters is by boat.

We love the idea of spending some time relaxing in the Hotel Rancho Humo, located in a private reserve and enjoy 2 nights staying in one of the most important “Blue Zones” in the world.

Relax at: Nosara - Days 8 to 10

On the last leg of your journey you will continue south west to the Pacific and the small coastal village of Nosara to see turtles hatch, explore the mangroves and enjoy some remote beach life.

Experience sunset horse rides on the beach, adventure through the jungle on quad bikes or discover the white sand beaches and warm waters of Playa Guiones and go for a swim or a surf.

For your final stay we love Lagarta Lodge experiencing breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and taking the time to unwind at the end of your holiday.
Make the most of the spa, gardens and pools before heading off on your final day by private transfer back to the airport.
