ON ROUTE DISCOVER: Pompei

Largely preserved under volcanic ash, Pompeii offers a unique snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment it was buried after the eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. A wealthy town of 20,000 residents it hosted many fine public buildings and luxurious private houses with lavish decorations, furnishings and artworks. Following its destruction, Pompeii remained largely undisturbed until its rediscovery in the late 16th century.

EXPLORE: Sorrento – Day 4 to 7

Just an hour away from Pompei, sitting on the white cliffs that plunge into the shimmering Bay of Naples, Sorrento is renowned for its breathtaking vistas, charming old town and bountiful lemon groves. Get under Sorrento’s skin as you wander down its cobblestone streets, explore quaint shops selling local handicrafts and bottles of handmade limoncello, enjoy a gelato in the Piazza Tasso, or dig into fresh seafood in one of the fantastic cliffside restaurant.

And if you’re looking for a little more action, take a ferry to the islands of Capri and Ischia, or enjoy a leisurely drive along the Amalfi Coast, greeted by some of Italy’s most postcard-worthy scenery.

STAY: Hotel Bellevue Syrene

The Hotel Bellevue Syrene stands on the foundations of an ancient Roman villa dating back to the 2nd century BC. In the early 1800’s the mansion was converted into a small, cosy hotel, and in 1995, the hotel was bought by long-standing hoteliers from Sorrento, who have skilfully preserved the charm and historical-artistic heritage of Bellevue Syrene, harmoniously blending old and new.

At the Bellevue Syrene, the range of taste is endless: the choice goes from La Pergola restaurant to delicious and glamorous moments in the bar, club lounge and exclusive breakfasts. The ancient wine cellars with the original tuff walls, safeguard about four hundred types of wine from all of Italy.
