Villa La Poderina – Tuscany, Italy
La Poderina is a unique, original and enticing place to stay. It is steeped in character and surrounded by 10 hectares of exceptional landscaped gardens, by Luciano Giubbilei, olive groves and with beautiful far reaching views across the countryside. La Poderina was previously a dilapidated and run down country ruin but is now a warm eclectic home designed and decorated not only with elegant taste and style but also with love, dedication and passion.
Throughout the property, the owner has ingeniously combined antique with contemporary, and European with Asian and African pieces creating a really special and unique home. It is the perfect place for entertaining or relaxing in both the summer and the winter months. There are two living and dining rooms. The larger living room enjoys spectacular views across the countryside whilst the smaller is cosy with vibrant furnishings and a fireplace. The larger dining room is more formal with a magnificent long table seating 16 people, whilst the smaller dining room lends itself to winter months with a large fireplace. We love that there is a fabulous wine cellar carved from tufo which can be glimpsed at through the large glass window. The professional kitchen is spacious and features state of the art equipment. From here it is easy to cross the courtyard to the al fresco pergola dining area, a magnificent spot for long, lazy lunches or dinners.
The main house sleeps eight guests in four en-suite bedrooms. Just across from the main house there is a sensational, spacious and romantic hideaway with an en-suite double bedroom. Split across two floors this hideaway has a wonderful living room with squidgy sofas, stunning views and an open fireplace, as well as a library that includes over a thousand DVDs and a small kitchen.
La Poderina is the best of both words – a country house with its own woods, gardens and extensive olive groves, yet with easy access to the magnificent culture, history, shops and much more of Siena. Just five minutes in the car to Siena, La Poderina could not be better placed for exploring Tuscany be it south to Val d’Orcia, north to Chianti and Florence or west to the Maremma and the umbrella pine lined sandy beaches of the southern Tuscan coast.
