Why visit Morzine?

The Ski Area

The Portes du Soleil ski area covers a vast 600km of slopes and a total of 307 runs, making it one of the world’s largest, covering seven resorts in France, and five in Switzerland. There are 120km locally, shared with Les Gets, and quick access to the entire area via the Super Morzine gondola or Prodains Express.

Pistes

The resort has a wide range of pistes, with runs suitable for all levels. Around Morzine itself, you’ll find cruisy tree lined tracks, and plenty of choice across Le Pleney (where you’ll find the best slopes for beginners), Nyon and Chamossière, all accessible to beginners and intermediates. Experienced intermediates love the area – the 11km descent from Chamossière to Morzine is particularly rewarding.

But there are decent challenges for experts too, including the famous Swiss Wall from Avoriaz, across the border to Les Crosets – a vertiginous, mogulled run for the fearless.

Restaurants

The village of Morzine is vibrant and full of restaurants for every single palate. Those partial to a fondue, flock to La Ferme de la Fruitière, where local cheeses are the star of the show. Whilst both La Grange and La Rotonde are cosy, traditional eateries serving Savoyard specialities. On the mountain, you’ll find plenty of characterful lunch stops, with roaring fires inside and picturesque terraces outside. Le Chaudron in Les Lindarets is a firm favourite, but for great views, head to L’Passage, overlooking Mont Blanc. Many of these can be reached by non-skiers too.

Après ski

Stop off on your way back down the slopes at Le Tremplin. With its large terrace and perfect vantage point, the partying continues until 8pm. You’ll find La Folie Douce at the top of Mont Joux, and Happy Hours Bar claims to throw the liveliest après ski party in the Portes du Soleil.
