The Arctic

Holidays to the Arctic

Covering around 4% of the earth’s surface, the Arctic is one of its most unique ecosystems. Encompassing northern Scandinavia, Greenland, Alaska, Canada and Russia, it is predominantly treeless tundra and permafrost. Indigenous cultures survive through traditional practices, whilst the wildlife and unique flora have developed unique biological characteristics. From Svalbard to the east coast of Greenland and the Northwest Passage, towering fjords, vertiginous cliffs teeming with seabirds, floating blue icebergs and vast ice caps dominate and overwhelm every single sense.

From May through to September, our expeditions explore the fjordlands of northern Scandinavia, exploring Europe’s last great wildnerness, circumnavigating Svalbard and discovering its remotest reaches, including the Austfonna ice cap. This is when the wildlife is at its most active, and the stunning landscape is lit by the midnight sun. Along the northeast coast of Greenland, our tours reveal the beauty of the Scoresbysund fjord system, taking you on an epic adventure along the coastline of the largest island on earth, with opportunities to hike through Northeast National Park, visiting remote settlements. Our itineraries in this region vary in destination and length, with many featuring expert tuition on photography. This is a trip to witness nature at her most spectacular.
